Military Cooperation
The Chinese premier's visit comes weeks after the two countries' air forces for the first time held joint maneuvers in Central Anatolia. The Turkish press reported that a Turkish defense official confirmed that Turkey's U.S.-made F-4 fighter aircraft and China's Russian-made fighters took part in exercises in September 2010.
China is also willing to enter the Turkish defense market, seeking to win a multibillion-dollar contract for Turkey's program for buying a national missile defense system to protect strategic areas and installations from potential ground-to-ground ballistic missile strikes. Competing in the ongoing Turkish contest are U.S. Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, with their Patriot Advanced Capability-3 systems; Russia's Rosoboronexport, marketing the S300; China's Precision Machinery Export-Import Corp., or CPMIEC, offering its HQ-9; and the Italian-French Eurosam, maker of the Aster 30.

Turkish commander visits Chinese counterpart
During his visit to China, Gen. Hasan Aksay, the commander of Turkish War Academies, proposed that Turkish and Chinese armies conduct joint military exercises. Gen. Aksay met Second Chief of Chinese General Staff Gen. Ge Zhenseng and National Defense University Commander Gen. Wang Xibin in Beijing.
Gen. Ge said this visit would boost relations between the armies and war academies of the two countries, and noted that they were willing to upgrade the level of relations with the Turkish army. During the meetings it was agreed that there was a need to improve the exchange of personnel programs between the two armies. The Chinese commander welcomed establishment of annual negotiation mechanisms between the two countries in 2008, noting this would further deepen relations.
In addition, China's Deputy Chief of General Staff
Gen. Ge Zhenfeng said they expect to receive more military students from
Turkey; since 1985, China has received 18 military delegations consisting of
200 people from Turkey. Turkey received 14 Chinese military delegations with
more than 330 representatives in the same period, officials said.

educational achievements and its combat capabilities, the Turkish military has
made a deep impression on my mind," and added the Turkish military was
exceptionally "disciplined." He also expressed his country's
